In this second part to accepting Christ we look at what the Bible says is the process and compare that to what we see!
Again let’s look at some facts of Scripture:
1. Any ability to perform spiritual acts such as exercising faith in Jesus, The sinner has been totally “ruined by the fall”
· “Without strength” Romans 5:6
· “Without strength” is “unable to help ourselves”
· “No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent me draw him.” John 6:44
· The Greek word for draw means “to drag”
· “Without holiness no man shall see the Lord” Hebrews 12:14; Matthew 5:8
· Man lost his holiness at the fall; we all came from Adam: Romans 5:12; Acts 17:26
· Man is corrupt and under the dominion of dispositions and lusts which are directly contrary to God, It is foolish to think in this condition man can “choose” the Christ.
2. The church seems to think when Christ is “offered” to man for his acceptance and he “surrenders” and he “gives his heart to Jesus” that the blood of Christ will then avail to wash away his sins.
· The truth of the Word of God is that before any man can be “saved” he must be “born of the Spirit” of God and surrender to the authority of God else his profession is worthless and his religion vain: John 3:8
· When we impress upon sinners to be saved by “Accepting Christ as their Savior” without pressing upon them the imperative necessity of repentance we are not being true to God’s word: Luke 17:3
· The sinner must repent; how do we know this means you? Romans 3:23
· If man does indeed repent it is not a work of nature but a gracious work of the Spirit of God: Acts 11:18.
· the result of the Holy Spirit in the life of the sinner results in the realization in his heart of “the sinfulness of sin” Romans 7:13
· Repent ye therefore, and be converted says Peter: Acts 3:19
3. When we look at the above passages several things become clear to us:
· More than a mental assent to the Gospel is necessary to be “saved”
· More than an empty profession of faith in Christ is needed
· More than joining some church of your choice
· Fallen man is utterly indisposed and disabled, thoroughly opposed to God and His law, wholly inclined unto evil.
4. The church’s problem in preaching the Gospel is that we call attention to one work of the Savior instead of the Person Himself who does that wonderful work: Philippians 1:6
5. What do the following Scriptures have in common?
· John 1:12
· John 3:16
· 1 John 5:12
· Matthew 11:28
· They all speak concerning salvation yet none of them say anything about us accepting the Christ nor do they point to one specific act Christ did in saving man; they do however point us to that wonderful and precious Person who did, and who does the work.
6. Look up the following verses; it is high time we take heed to them:
· 2 Timothy 1:13
· 1 Corinthians 2:13
· 1 Thessalonians 5:21
Prayer: Eternal God our heavenly Father; may we look to you for salvation and understand that it is an act of your love and grace.
You alone are worthy of praise, glory, and honor.
You did for us what we were unable to do for ourselves.
We praise you!! we pray someone will be saved by you as they study your word as presented here.
IT IS YOUR WORD THAT SAVES; NOT THE PREACHER.
